Harriet Schleifer, who held leadership roles at numerous Jewish organizations, was honored for her decades of philanthropic work at the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Westchester/Fairfield Fall Gala on November 18.

More than 400 people were at Temple Israel Center in White Plains to fete Schleifer, a former AJC president.

Schleifer also moderated a conversation between CNN commentator Van Jones and AJC CEO Ted Deutch, who presented Jones with a shofar. Jones, long a staunch supporter of Israel, also spoke about how the Black and Jewish communities have more in common than many people might realize, especially when it comes to civil rights and fighting discrimination.
